Michael Neustein

George Smith is a Director of Design Collaborative Pty Ltd, planning and development consultants, a practice he established in 1968 and the year in which he joined the NSW Division as Honorary Treasurer. He holds a Bachelor of Surveying (University of Queensland) and a Master of City Planning (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and is a Fellow of PIA and API as well as an Honorary Fellow of AIUS. He chaired the NSW Division in the mid-1970s. When a joint venture of which he was a director was named NSW Exporter of the Year in 1978, George retired from active involvement in the Institute.

He became involved in the Sydney (later the State) Chamber of Commerce, serving on its Council for 15 years as a member and on its Board of Directors for four years. He rejoined the Division’s Committee as Honorary Treasurer in 2004. He remains involved because he believes that AIUS provides a neutral forum in which issues affecting urban affairs are publically debated. He would like to its discussions more broadly disseminated.

About AIUS

The Australian Institute of Urban Studies is an independent non-profit organisation established through the initiatives of the Australian Planning Institute and the Social Science Research Council.

The Institute is supported by membership subscription and by the proceeds of its activities such as public seminars. Although there are other, mostly professional, organisations with an interest in urban affairs, AIUS is Australia's only widely representative, non partisan, multi-disciplinary body concerned with all aspects of urban affairs.
