Climate change resilience – the practical approach
Tuesday, 2 July 2019
5.00-6.30pm, followed by discussion over refreshments
Clyde & Co, level 15, 333 George Street Sydney
Climate change is much discussed and many predictions are made of its impact. Sea level rise is one likely consequence. How are we going to deal with higher sea levels, abandon coastal development to erosion or build sea walls and dykes? What should state and local governments do in the face of nature? How should we create resilience? Adam Davis, Technical Director - Sustainability & Resilience at AECOM, will bring his practical engineering experience to describe strategic and on-the-ground initiatives to create climate change resilience.
Adam Davis
Adam has over 25 years’ industry experience using his skills and strengths to help asset and critical infrastructure owners and operators cope, recover and prosper, under changing climate conditions. He has completed climate adaptation and resilience projects at local, regional, state, national and international scales, looking at climate hazards, risk, vulnerability and resilience. As industry interest and uptake of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Recommendations escalates, Adam is increasingly assisting his clients to understand and respond to key TCFD disclosure points.
Adam takes a holistic view of the challenges facing his clients – an approach he has refined through his involvement with major international programs such 100 Resilient Cities and the Resilient Reefs initiatives. Adam is AECOM’s project director on Resilient Reefs which has been developed to build the resilience of UNESCO World Heritage listed coral reefs such as the Great Barrier Reef to the globally significant threat of climate change, whilst also building the reef communities’ ability to adapt to a future of uncertainty. In an urban context, Adam is also working with the Rockefeller Foundation as part of their 100 Resilient Cities initiative to assist their member cities across the Asia-Pacific address the shocks and stresses of the 21st century driven by climate change, globalisation and urbanisation.
